Description
Aztec Rustica, a Rapi Nui strain from Easter Island, is native to Central and South America. Growing 30 inches tall, it produces bright yellow flowers that attract bees and hummingbirds, with a two-month flowering period. Its leaves air cure to a medium to dark brown, offering a mild-flavored smoke despite their high nicotine content. Often used as an insecticide, its leaves can be soaked to create a “tea” that protects plants for up to six weeks. Thriving in cool climates and frost-resistant, Rustica has traditionally been a ceremonial tobacco but is also used in pipe, cigar, chew, and cigarette blends to enhance strength. It matures quickly and air dries easily, making it well-suited for northern growers.
